Works Due to Commence Monday 8th February 2021

We have been informed by City of York Council that work is scheduled to commence next week, Monday 8th February, on alterations to the Site Entrance to Harewood Whin.

The completion of these works will represent the conclusion of our negotiations with Yorwaste, which have transformed the original plan for a large industrial unit beside the B1224, and potential traffic nuisance, to a Waste Transfer station that is largely hidden from view and within the boundaries of Harewood Whin.

These changes were negotiated by us at the time of the planning approval for the Waste Transfer Station and are designed to prevent HGVs from turning right out of the site and through Rufforth village. The project has been much delayed and been the subject of constant chasing by the Parish council, and whilst, to be fair, Yorwaste have managed traffic flows in the principle of our agreement in the intervening period, it is important that the physical changes are in place to reinforce the negotiated Operating Agreement to prevent heavy traffic from Harewood Whin being a major nuisance in the village.

The work involves widening the entrance on both sides and the creation of splitter islands. It is anticipated that the works will take three weeks and will take place Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, controlled by three-way lights.  Please see the CYC Information Bulletin for full details.

We are pleased that we will now have a closed landfill site and a Waste Transfer Station with minimal adverse effects on residents, all covered by an Operating Agreement signed by Yorwaste and the Parish Council.
