Rufforth Village Institute & Social Club
Rufforth Village Institute and Social Club, along with the Old School, are jointly held in trusteeship for the residents of the village. They are linked properties protected by a group of six trustees.
The Village Institute was built during the First World War on land given by the Middlewood family, to provide a space for people in the village to get together socially and for their general education. The west end of the Hall next to the Avenue was a small reading room for this educational purpose.
The day to day running of the Hall is managed, at the moment, by a small committee who also organise community events there and maintain the fabric of the building.
Various groups book the Hall for regular use as well as one-off events like parties, funeral wakes, quiz nights, and pig racing.
We are currently looking for younger volunteers to join the management committee to ensure the smooth running and survival of this much-loved building… a real community hub.
Booking the Hall is easy, just ring Jane Wright on 01904 738285 for a booking form. Discounted rates are available for Rufforth residents.
