Village maintenance requests made to City of York Council

The Parish Council have pursued a number of maintenance issues with City of York Council:

  • Drains along the roads in Rufforth which were blocked with leaves, mud, and other debris have now been cleaned out.
  • We have written to the Council with regard to the muddy state of the pavement alongside Wetherby Road on the western side of the village, approaching West cottage. We have been promised action, although it has to be said that, with increasing pressure on the workforce due to Covid, priority is being given to gritting and waste collection.
  • We have asked Highways to carry out an inspection of the chestnut tree in Rufforth, as there are a number of branches overhanging the road. The tree is much loved in the village and is the subject of a Tree Preservation Order, but may be in need of pruning. CYC will only take action if a danger to passing traffic is perceived.
  • We have drawn the Council’s attention to the poor state of the surface of Bradley Lane as you exit Rufforth. This has been noted but will go on the long list of resurfacing requests. We will continue to chase this necessary work.

We will update on these and any other issues as they progress or are resolved.
